The beads are pearls, known as Ornament mantra pearls or Tibetan pearls. Each pearl is hand-etched with the prayer mantra "Om Mane Padme Hum”. It is believed that the one who recites this Mantra will be saved from danger and will be protected. This Mantra is usually found inscribed on rocks, roads, paths, mountain passes and the approaches and exits of villages all over Tibet and Nepal.
